High Tea with Mrs Woo Help and Service

Here are a bunch of common questions that we get asked. If you can’t find the answer you seek here, do please get in touch by filling out our Contact Form.

How often do you re-stock or update your shop?

We re-stock when we have new products, or at the very least once a monthly. We try our best to update and keep on top of product quantities at the end of every week.

Where are your products made?

High Tea with Mrs Woo garments and products are happily made in Australia. Other products that we stock from designers, artisans and makers are from different places and countries from where they come. These products are crafted, produced by small-scale production or by ethical and thoughtful production means.

What’s the best way to wash garments?

The best way to care for your garments is by wearing, storing and laundering properly, keeping them clean and in good repair. Care instructions are attached to the garments but here are the basic care guidelines for the fabrics we use.
Strong, breahtable, long-wearing and comfortable textiles. Wash in cold water with mild detergent (avoid harsh cleaners), hang in the shade to dry, iron on warm/hot steam heat setting as required, store clean and mended.
Wash in cold water with mild detergent (avoid harsh cleaners, do not bleach), hang in the shade to dry, iron on warm heat setting. Use moth or cedar wood balls, or camphor, when storing away during winter – dry, clean and mended.
100% SILK
Soft and strong but also delicate. Hand-washing in cold water with non-alkaline soap like wool detergent or baby shampoo – this is because it is a protein fibre (also applies to wool care). Do not soak, bleach or use harsh detergents. Do not wring or twist, instead hang to dry or roll in towel to extract water. Never dry in direct sunlight or heater as wet silk can yellow.
100% WOOL
Wool is resilient but needs care. Always cold hand-wash your wools with wool detergent or baby shampoo (see notes about silk). Do not warm wash or use a dryer as heat and friction will shrink wool. Do not wring or twist, instead hang to dry or roll in towel to extract water. Lay flat in shade to dry, always iron on warm heat steam setting (do not iron wool with dry iron). Knitted garments, including hand knits must never be hung – best to fold and store. Use moth or cedar wood balls, or camphor, when storing away during summer – dry, clean and mended.
Gentle machine washing or hand-washing with cold water with a gentle detergent is recommended. Hang to dry in the shade and use a cool/warm heat steam setting to iron – be careful as too much direct heat may scorch the textile. Store clean and mended.
*Tencel is a man-made natural fibre from renewable plant materials, namely eucalyptus wood pulp. Part of the rayon family, it is the trade name for the generic fibre Lyocell. It is soft, breathable, lightweight, crease-resistant, comfortable, durable and biodegradable. Produced by a closed-loop manufacturing process that recovers or decomposes all solvents and emissions, this textile represents a milestone in the development of environmentaly sustainable textiles.

Isn’t Made-To-Order the same as Custom Made?

No. Made-to-order means we only make it when you order it. The styles and designs available for made-to-order are with our existing pattern grades. No further size, shape or any other adjustments are available or offered with this option.
To custom-make is to customise the product to fit you and we do not offer this service. However, we are currently offering fabric customisation to your made-to-order pieces whereby you supply your own fabrics or work with us to choose from a selection of our fabrics in stock. There are many conditions to this process – please get in touch with us for further enquiry or to place an order.

Do you do repairs or alterations?

We do not offer an alterations service and we only do repairs to garments and products that we have made ourselves. If, within 7 days of your purchase you find a fault in a High Tea with Mrs Woo garment, we will repair it where we can or replace the garment. Goods are sent for repair at your own postage cost, and repairs are returned to you by High Tea with Mrs Woo.

Slow Fashion is a way of working, growing and striving to better in creating more sustainable living and business practices.
Kate Fletcher from the Centre for Sustainable Fashion was first to coin this term when fashion was compared to the Slow Food Movement. Carl Honoré, author of “In Praise of Slowness”, says that the ‘slow approach’ is an intervention in the revolutionary process of the contemporary world as it encourages taking time to ensure quality production, to give value to product and contemplate the connection with the environment.

The Slow Fashion values practiced by High Tea with Mrs Woo are such as -

  • Slowing down consumption and decreasing fashion production to help reduce raw material use and alleviate pressure on natural cycles and what the earth can provide.
  • Artisanal-production instead of mass-production – producing long-lasting garments by sourcing high quality fabrics to create well-fitting, well-made designs with timeless style.
  • Being more resourceful in using local materials and resources where possible and support the development of local businesses and skills.
  • Encouraging customers to support small local businesses, fair-trade and locally-made clothing.
  • Encouraging customers to have better value their garments – learn not to discard or waste, instead to love and mend.
  • Educating customers that prices are often higher because they incorporate sustainable resources and proper wages.
  • Keeping traditional methods of garment and textile making and dyeing techniques alive – give vibrancy and meaning to what we wear and how it was made.
  • Respecting people, supporting local communities and building long-lasting relationships with suppliers and customers to encourage better sustainable practices and create a stronger movement.
  • Making better decisions, taking responsibility and recognising that we are all interconnected to the larger environmental and social system.
