“So many of our dreams at first seems impossible, then they seem improbable, and then, when we summon the will, they soon become inevitable.” ~ Christopher Reeve
Most inescapably and most certainly, this is just what happened. Having been in the same building since 2001 and running High Tea with Mrs Woo here since 2004, we did what we thought impossible – rejuvenated our dream and renovated our beautiful Newcastle store.
All of this started as a daydream. And then it grew – from years, to months of real possibility, organising and preparing, and intense days in planning, tracking down, making and installing… and eventually, our dream materialised before our eyes.
In the way that we are always compelled to do things, we put our whole hearts and hands into it. And what an intense and rewarding process!
Sanding and revealing the natural beauty of our 1930s floorboards, shop counter and display cabinets; designing and making a stunning set of modern shelving, brackets, drawers and seating; hand-binding our racks in leather and installing re-worked vintage mirrors and wooden treasures to create our dream interior space.
It was arduous without a doubt, but so interesting to work with materials other than textiles – like timber, copper and slate. It re-newed our appreciation for making as well as the realisation of how much we love working with our hands.
Come dream with us – leave the street and step into a different time, slow up. Come to a place where you hold things in your hands – a thought, a moment, a scent, a light – beautiful, useful things – from skilled hands to your hands.
THANK YOU. Our beautiful store reveries could not have come true without the love, patience, wonderful help, skills and talents of Matthew Travis, Sean O’Connell, and with deep and special thanks to Benjamin Gallagher for design collaboration and creation.
