Workshop Date: March 2010
Workshop Venue: Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery
High Tea with Mrs Woo is a memory come to life. It’s our collective memory of a certain time… but was it a real memory? or is it a collection of memories, created new in translation? or has it been so long it doesn’t really matter anymore? It’s a continuous starting point for us.
As part of our Timeframe exhibition, this workshop looked at making a functional object using the fabric of your memories. The object being a small bag was the perfect pun. This process provided an insight to a part of our own design process. It looked at how you may consider materials and composition and how you may translate your feelings, stories and memories by shape, colour and embellishment.
By hand-sewing only, the 1-day workshop explored relationships and feelings about the printed fabric. We provided scraps of fabrics from the production process of High Tea with Mrs Woo. Good conversation, fun and afternoon tea was enjoyed!
Thank you to Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery for inviting us to present this workshop, and to the wonderful participants – our very warmest wishes and thanks!
