Recycled Yarn colours reveal

Recycled Yarn colours reveal

We continue to develop our Zero Waste Garment to Zero Waste Yarn project... here is an exciting new moment!

Quick summary -

For the last 15 years, we've been on a mission to find an upcycling solution for our textile 'offcuts' and close the loop on clothing production.

In the last 5 years, we finally found a project parter Dempstah who works with The Billie Upcycling in Hong Kong. We've been working with them to convert our textile offcuts into high quality recycled yarn. The Billie is an incredible mechanical recycling system which does not consume any water, detergents or produce any chemical waste.

In 2024, we shipped 600+kg of our textile 'offcuts' to The Billie. It's been a huge process with many challenges... and so, it is with great excitement TODAY to finally receive our textile 'offcuts' converted into recycled yarn - over 800kg of it!

NOTE The recycled yarn is produced at the optimum quality and strength to be able to knit under strong tension using the Shima Seiki 3D knitting technology.

As part our circular design practices, we developed 'Zero Waste Garment to Zero Waste Yarn' project with the support of City of Sydney Ideas & Innovations grant.
We partnered with the Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Fashion & Textiles University of Technology Sydney - Lisa Lake, Nga Wun LI and Shirley Tam to work with the Shima Seiki WHOLEGARMENT Knitting Machine. We were successful in prototyping our first 3D knitted garment with our zero-waste recycled yarn.

This project continues. We hope to develop a circular design system for clothing production that keeps textile waste out of landfill for good.
